Chetumal is a town with about 150’000 habitants and is situated next to the border to Belize. Honestly a hugh city but not much to explore. Chetumal has a nice sea with beautiful water. But there is no beach around to hang out.
The first day we just explored the sea, enjoyed the sun, listened to the music of the waves and were drinking a refreshing drink in a bar.
In the evening we went to the cinema to look the film fast and the furious 8. I have never been in such a cheap cinema before, haha. We payed not even 4 usd for both of us.
Chetumal is a good starting point for visiting the famous and breathtaking Laguna Bacalar.
The Laguna Bacalar is close to Chetumal and is one of the most beautiful lagunas I have ever seen in my life. She has seven different colors and is a mixture between salt and sweet water. There are several possibilities to explore the Laguna Bacalar.
- Boat tour
- Sailing tour
We decided to rent a kayak for two hours to cross the Laguna Bacalar. It was intensiv and I felt my muscles the next day. But it was every pain worth it.
How to reach the Laguna Bacalar: you can take a taxi or a shared taxi from Chetumal, which takes you about an half an hour. Or you can sleep in the town Bacalar, where you will find lots of hostels and accommodations.
Los Rapidos looks like a river and is a part of the Laguna Bacalar. There were just Mexicans and we – it was a funny and lovely afternoon. You can take a swim in the river and the water is crystal clear.
I hope my travel guide for Chetumal and the Laguna Bacalar will help you out to see more beautiful places of this awesome world.
